1. Introduction
Email Management is available only if you have a personalized domain and email with Myers.
An email account owner can:
The primary administrator can do all that an email account owner can, and:
Here is an example of the "Email Management" main page for a primary administrator.
2.1 Getting Started
From the main “Email Management” page, you can access all all the functionality associated with your account.
2.2 Retrieving Web-based Email
To retrieve email from the web, select the “Get Email” link next to the email account (see sec. 1). This will launch a new Web Mail window. It will open up your Inbox showing your most recent email messages. To read an email, select the subject line.
2.3 Changing Your Account Options
In the "Email Management" screen (see sec. 1), select the "Options" link next to the email account you would like to edit. This will display the "Email Options" screen. (Illustrated below is the Email Options screen for the primary administrator.) You can:
2.3.1 Editing Your Auto-responder
Each email account comes with an auto-responder. An auto-response is an automatic email reply that is sent to someone who sent you an email. The auto-reply can be customized to fit your needs. Your auto-responder keeps you in touch with people who email you while you're away from a computer. Use your auto-responder when you're on vacation, at an appointment, or anytime you want to send an immediate reply.
Follow these instructions to setup your auto-responder. Select the “Edit” link in the Auto-Responder row (see "Email Options" above). Enter content in the Subject line. Compose the email message. Select “Yes” to enable the auto-responder. Submit the page.
2.3.2 Setting Your Quota
The primary administrator is usually the website owner or administrator. Only the primary administrator can adjust the email account quota (storage capacity) of an email account. An email account owner must contact the primary administrator to administer the account quota. (See sec. 3. Adding Email Accounts.)
One hundred one megabytes of storage space (quota) are free with your email management account. You may divide the available storage space among as many email accounts as you wish. To purchase additional storage space, select the "View Price/Storage Summary" link (see sec. 1. Introduction).
2.3.3 Turning on the Spam Filter
From the "Email Options" screen, select “Enable” or “Disable” to turn On/Off your spam filter.
2.3.4 What is the Spam Filter?
Myers uses SpamAssassin (tm) as a mail filter to identify spam.
2.3.5 How Does the Spam Filter Work?
When you turn on your spam filter from the Originator Network Email Options page, all the messages (headers and body text) you receive will be scanned using a wide range of tests to identify "spam", also known as unsolicited commercial email. If you receive a message that has been tagged as spam, it will be automatically segregated into a folder in your webmail account called "Junk". This Junk folder will be automatically purged every SEVEN days.
Important note for POP users: If you receive your email via POP, your spam messages isolated in the Junk folder will NOT be delivered; you will need to access your Junk folder via webmail -or- you should turn off the Spam Filter.
2.3.6 More About How SpamAssassin Detects Spam
Header Analysis: spammers use a number of tricks to mask their identities, fool you into thinking they've sent a valid mail, or fool you into thinking you must have subscribed at some stage. SpamAssassin tries to spot these. Text Analysis: again, spam mails often have a characteristic style (to put it politely), and some characteristic disclaimers and CYA text. SpamAssassin can spot these, too.
2.3.7 Additional Spam and Anti-virus Protection Offered by Myers
In addition to the Spam Filter, Myers email system offers additional protection from spam and viruses. Our mail servers refer to lists of servers with evidence of historical spamming and systems that use “open-relays” (servers which are very susceptible to sending unauthorized email messages). These lists are 3rd party applications that identify mail servers that are past offenders and block the receipt of messages from them. While these lists do not eliminate spam, they do reduce the delivery of Spam to you.
2.3.8 What Else You Dan Do to Protect Your Computer From Spam and Viruses
Myers strongly recommends that you run anti-virus software on your computer. There are commercial tools retailed by virus protection leaders such as McAfee, Norton anti-virus and Trend Micro. Their web sites also include best practices for you to minimize your risk of loss from viruses:
You should always remain vigilant for viruses. Here are some other helpful tips put together by McAfee.
2.4 Forward Email
Forward Email is used to forward email to one or more different email accounts. (It may be convenient for you to centralize the receipt of all your messages.) When forwarding is enabled, a copy of the forwarded message IS NOT retained in this email account. To enable email forwarding, enter the forwarding email address in the "Forward to:" field, then select "Submit." To disable forwarding, remove the email address from the "Forward to:" field, then select "Submit." To forward to more than one email address, separate email addresses by a comma.
2.5 Changing Your POP Password
Your POP password is used if you are going to POP your email into a program such as Outlook or Outlook express. In the "Email Options" page, follow the "Change Password" link. Your password must be 6 to 15 characters long.
You must have a domain that Myers controls the DNS in order to manage email accounts. This will not work with your temporary domain.
A primary administrator can create an email account by selecting the "Create Email Account" link.
There are two ways you can set up email using your domain name:
Here is an example of the Email Management page.
3.1 Create an Email Account (POP or Webmail)
To add a POP or Webmail email account, select the "Create Email Account" link (see above). Enter the Email Address and select the domain name from the drop down. Enter the account quota, then submit.
3.2 Create Alias
To create an email alias, select the "Create Alias" link in the Email Management page (see sec. 1). In the "Address" field, create the alias account. In the "Forwards to:" field, enter the email account to which email will be delivered. Select "Submit."
3.3 Deleting an Email Account
In the "Email Management" page (see sec. 1), for the email account to be delected, select "Options." In this screen, select "Delete Account." You can delete all but the postmaster account.
3.4 Changing Your Email Quota
From the "Email Management" page (see sec.1), follow the "Options" link for the email account of interest. In the "Quota" row, follow the "Edit" link (see above).
You will reach this page in which you can edit the quota. To purchase additional storage space, follow the "View Price/Storage Summary," or "Update Storage Space" link.
4. Set Catch-all Email Account
Your catch-all email account will receive all email that is sent to your domains not matching a valid/existing email account. For example, if someone misspells an email address, it will either be delivered to the catch-all account, or it will bounce back to the sender.
One hundred one megabytes of storage space (quota) are free with your email management account. You may divide the available storage space among as many email accounts as you wish. Use this screen to purchase additional storage space.
